Is Roblox safe for your child?
Sources reviewed on November 1, 2026. Based on public advice, see below.
It depends on the settings and on you. Roblox says accounts for ages 5 to 8 (Roblox Kids) have chat turned off and only show games with its lowest maturity ratings. A linked parent account lets you manage this. These are Roblox's own descriptions. Stay close, and tell your child to show you everything.
What does Roblox set for ages 5 to 8?
From Roblox's safety pages, which note that accounts and controls vary by region:
- Roblox Kids is for ages 5 to 8 in most regions.
- Games: only those with the lowest maturity ratings, Minimal and Mild.
- Chat is off. A parent can turn on in-game chat. Those children can then chat with users aged 5 to 12, and with trusted friends.
How do you get control as a parent?
Create a parent account and link it to your child's. Roblox says you'll need to verify your age with a government ID or a credit card. After that, you can manage most settings from your own device. In your child's account, go to Settings, Parental Controls, then Add parent.
What remains a risk?
NCMEC says online enticement takes place on every platform, including gaming platforms. Scams are another issue: read how to spot free Robux scams. Also, your child can see what other players build and do. We could not independently check how well Roblox's controls work.
What would we do?
- Keep chat off for a child of 4 to 7.
- Check that the account has your child's real birth date.
- Play together a few times to see what your child likes.
- Keep the tablet in a shared room, and agree that your child can show you anything.
Note that Roblox says users range in age from 5 to over 25. For more on the risks, read what online grooming is.
